Stating Guide

Stating is something many people are not fond of, me included. Spending an hour to find out you wasted your time is not always a really fun thing to do, but when luck hit, and your stats are good you will appreciate all the time taken to get them.

Now, you start a new character and find your self in the Circle of Light (col). The first thing you want to do is... type "help newbie". Read that. Then go to www.wotmud.com, read the newbie section and the rules of the game. Hopefully you have done this already, otherwise it is unlikely you would be reading this. :P Now you know the game, you know the rules, but you still don't know what to do... well that is what this page is for. :)

To get you started, type "tell guardian kit". He will give you a nice little newbie kit. Type "wear all" and wow, now you have some eq on. Put everything you have left in your sack ("put all sack") and it is always good to hold your sack. ("hold sack") sick isn't it :P and then go down from the col to Caemlyn City Square (ccs). Ok now to tell you something that the wotmud site doesn't....

Now in caem, with 8 practice sessions you need to practice ride and find your self a horse. (goto spams for ranger prac directions) There should be a horse some where or another just keep looking around. And make sure you don't get hungry or thirsty. Hunger/thirst will not let your regenerate your mvs and hp very well. You want to have lvl 3 ride before your practice anything else. (lvl 3 ride : you may attack on horse back) If you are a warrior or a thief this usually means using all 8 pracs on ride, for ranger pracs for each of those classes costs 2. After practicing ride to lvl 3, go to the warrior prac (spams) and practice in the weapon you have, (do not prac in sblades for first 5 lvls even if you are a thief) a good suggestion for a solo stater is long blades, axes, or clubs (preferably axes or clubs) because they are easy to find, and much better to stat with. After finding a horse, and using all of your practices you will now need to either start exping or find some decent eq that would be good for stating. (note: all pracs after lvl 3 ride should be spent in the weapon you are using and nothing else.)

When stating, time is of the essence. Might as well find out your stats as quickly and efficiently as you can, rather than waste a lot of time, that way you will have more time to stat another character. Decent equipment can be a great help in stating and can speed it up remarkably. The best choice in weapons for stating is a large weapon, such as a club or an axe that will deal a lot of damage with each hit. The more damage each hit you deal out the better exp you will get for that fight.

Good easy to obtain weapons are (Southies: area info):

  1. Bone Crushing Mattock - Edmond's Field Hillmen
  2. Splay-backed Battleaxe - Roland's guards
  3. Warhammer - Chief Wretch

(Basically a big 2-handed club, axe, or staff)

You will need a highbie to help you obtain these, most will not help, but there are a few people (Mael Mahdin) that would be willing. Remember to be nice, don't send someone a tell saying "Go get me an axe" or "Stat me" and start spam telling them. It is extremely annoying, and even people that would be willing to help might decide not to with such an attitude.

Also, when stating, the equipment of choice would be abs. Regardless of what class you are, you should try to get some basic abs to stat in. Again just ask someone to help out. Ask them to hit wb/ef hillmen, or Lugard Tower Skeleton.

  1. Thin mail shirt - Lugard Tower Skeleton
  2. Thin metal leggings - Lurgard Tower Skeleton
  3. Leather helmet - Lurgard Tower Skeleton
  4. Thin Leather Coverings - White Bridge Hillmen
  5. Leather Half Gauntlets - Lurgard Tower Skeleton

(Boots are not recommended for stating, hurts moves roll.)

Ok, hopefully you can get someone to help you with these at least once. After that you can just fine a room that is out of the way, and put all your needed equipment in a bag, hide it (type: "hide sack" or "hide {that piece of eq}") and the come back in five minutes with a new character and get you stating eq ("search sack" or "search {that piece of eq}").

Now getting exp. If your solo, be ready to explore, your going to have to, but I can give a few good places around Caemlyn were you can find some easy mobs. Before you do anything,
DO NOT KILL MOBS INSIDE CAEMLYN
, sorry about the caps, but it is a good way for you to get wanted and killed. First of all, south of Caemlyn (spams), through the south gate and past the Village of Kintara, is a good place to exp. Cute Deer, Bitemes are easy kills. (To attack the mobs just type "kill {name of mob}" such as "kill cute" for a cute brown deer) After killing a few of these you should lvl. (Type "score" to see your experience and experience to next lvl [tnl] ) Also a longer but equally good place to exp is west of Caemlyn (see spams for directions to get there). It is a few north of Lugard on a small path, there are many cute deer there to hunt. :)

Now if you are with a highbie, you won't need to worry about where to get exp. you main concern is getting the most exp out of each fight. Hopefully you will have a good big two-handed weapon, which will help stat you much faster. You will need to use a few alias commands to make your stating trip faster and easier. First of all, after you find a highbie to help, follow up with him. (when she/he is in the room with you type "follow {the name of that person" like "follow nevelo") and he will group you up. Now, you need to make an alias to assist him/her. Type "alias {pick your hot key or word} assist {name of that person}" such as "alias a assist nevelo". With this alias set up you will be able to submit the assist nevelo command by simply typing "a" (or what ever you choose) and pressing enter. Much faster, and you will thus get more chances of getting a good hit in. Also, type "change mood brave", this will set your mood to brave and there for have a higher ob and bettr chances of getting in a good hit. Always stay with your helper, don't wander off, and do everything he/she says and you will be stated in no time at all.

After exping to lvl 5 don't worry. Your pracs are reset at that point. (nothing is wrong) I would advise not attacking anything or assisting your helper if you are still riding your horse. The moment you dismount, you will not be able to ride it again until you get your ride practiced again. This reset only happens once. Now to see if your stats are playable (anything is playable, but most would prefer a good set of stats to make life much easier) type "stats". You should get a block of text, and with in that it will tell you what your base stats are.

One last note. If you see I am on the mud and ask for help and I cannot give it. I am not mean, I am simply busy. If I have nothin to do, and you ask, I might just help you out. Just don't expect me the come running from what I am doing, that is one reason this page is here. To help you out. If you need help, ask a Mael, I am sure they would be glad to help. That is what they are there for. Just be sure you have read the entire help newbie text first.
